Katelyn Merring, a certified reading specialist and therapeutic trainer, is the owner of ALS and solves reading and learning issues for children with Dyslexia, ADD, ADHD, auditory processing deficits and other processing disorders

When parents call us to get help for their child, they have run out of options and are worried about their child’s struggles with school. We listen and know from experience that the child may be lacking a solid base in phonics, or have auditory, visual or sensory processing challenges. In some cases, the student may have a learning disability, such as Dyslexia, Central Auditory Processing Disorder (CAPD), Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Austin Learning Solutions has a proven track record with helping children retrain their brain to overcome these challenges and prepare them for success in school.

What We Do at Austin Learning Solutions

WHO AND WHAT
We specialize in teaching reading to students that...

  • are first time readers (we believe in building healthy reading habits and forming a strong phonics base from the beginning of a child's reading journey)
  • are struggling with reading and have no known diagnoses
  • have a diagnosis of or "at risk" for Dyslexia, Auditory Processing Disorder, ADHD, ADD, or Visual Processing Disorders

WHY
Austin Learning Solutions has a very high success rate because:

  • we meet with students one-on-one
  • we follow the "science of reading" theory
  • we implement multisensory/hands-on learning
  • we focus on letter formation, handwriting, and spelling
  • we train the child AND parent in our methods so parents have the tools needed to help their child at home
  • we continously progress montior your child's skills so that our lessons are targets to their specific needs

WHERE
We meet with local Austin students and their familes, in-person at our West Lake office. We also meet with students on Zoom that live locally or in another state!

Our goal is to insure that each student reaches his or her full potential as soon as possible to secure a successful future. Our joy is hearing parents' feedback that their child now WANTS to read and feels confident in their reading abilities! This can happen for your child.

Let's get started!

  1. Give us a call, text, or email, to set up a free 15-20 minute phone consultation. This converstation will give us insight on your child and provide you with additional information about ALS. From there, we decide if we would be a good fit!
  2. If we are what you are looking for and we can meet your child's needs, we set up an assessment that will take place at our office. The assessment is an important step in this process because it provides us with a baseline. We assess: processing skills, reading level, rate/fluency, comprehesion and vocabulary level, code knowledge, spelling, phonological awareness, and screen for Dyslexia and Auditory Processing. Our assessments include screeners that do not diagnose. If we see that a diagnosis is needed, we will point you in the right direction and provide recommendations.
  3. After the assessment, we will set up a Zoom meeting a week later to discuss the results, our personalized report, and recommendations.
  4. Finally, we set up reading session time that works for everyone!

We are proud to say that we have been improving the lives of children for over 20 years!
